In the Pure Sanguine, sanguine expansion organizes the form alone: taking part is already enough. The image is the sun, a center that radiates and warms without needing anything else to be what it is.

The Pure Sanguine can enjoy being loved and included without needing to be the smartest, the most talented, or the most important; the mere fact of being inside the experience can be enough. Purity, here, is not maximum sociability or a wish to please everyone. They can confront, keep a routine, learn a difficult skill, and sustain a bond for years, without any of this being a condition of their way of being present. In my observation, they regain their spirits easily, even alone, which does not mean they do not suffer. And there are Pure Sanguines who have learned, out of concern for their reputation, to hold back their own spontaneity, and so they seem less impulsive than they are.

The good proper to this form is welcome, humor, companionship, and the renewal of experience. The same openness to the pleasant, however, makes it costly to lose a warm reception or to give up a desired experience, and the temptation proper to it is vanity, when preserving one’s own acceptance comes to govern the choice against what one has recognized as good. Other vices, such as gluttony and lust, are not a monopoly of this temperament or of any other, even though they can use its door.

The mature form of the Pure Sanguine is to enjoy without making the pleasant sovereign. They remain able to enjoy the pleasant good with a contagious joy, but can let it go when truth or duty asks, and their sun, at last, no longer needs to borrow light.
